The Wild Hunt for Fantastic Scuffles

The next warband for Fantastic Scuffles are the models from the Skaeth's Wild Hunt set for Warhammer Underworlds. I got this from one of the Underworlds starter sets and while I played it a few times it wasn't really the sort of game I was interested in. The models are quite nice though with their Wood Elf/Centaur aesthetic. As opposed to Argash's collection of miscreants and hobgoblin scum, the Wild Hunt are elite troops. I also want to try to expand the number of traits that I am using in this warband.

Building the warband

One difference with this warband is that the miniatures imply actions that the models are taking. One is armed with a large bow, another has a huge horn and a third is leaping over some foliage. The war band's namesake, Skaeth, is a centaur armed with a large spear and is posed mid-leap. In comparision, my Abyssal Dwarves look like they are waiting in line for the coffee machine. Sometimes the miniatures help you write a story. Other times the miniatures are from a rank-and-flank game and you get what you get.

The entire Wild Hunt warband will have light armour and only the centaur (Skaeth) has a shield. So they will be easy to wound if someone does manage to get a hit in. I am also envisioning them as all being fast with the exception of the horn blower. It is difficult to run if you have carrying along a large musical instrument.

Skaeth

As mentioned, Skaeth is a centaur who is charging through the woods seeking to deliver his spear to his next target. Skaeth is a Large Warrior and is given the Fast, Proud and Robust traits. Proud will allow him to automatically pass Resolve tests to ensure he stays on the field of battle. Robust makes him more difficult to wound. Skaeth is also given the miscellaneous equipment Mountable. This allows him to carry another, smaller, model on his back.

Althaen

Warriors in Fantastic Scuffles are not good shots. To make sure that Althaen is the best shot he (they?) can be, he is assigned the Rogue role. He is given the Tracker trait which lets the party preroll for deployment order in a game. He also has Skilled Marksman and Steady Aim to increase his Shooting stat and also to allow him to get a bonus to-shoot modifier if not moving. Finally he is given the Entangle spell. I will use this to represent his bow being magical and allowing him to shoot entangling arrows at opponents.

Karthaen

Karthaen is the Hunt's horn blower. He has the Inspire spell to represent his horn call raising the spirits of the rest of the warband. I also gave him Taunt and Distracting. He uses his horn to unnerve opponents and also to distract them with his incessant tooting. His role is to disturb the enemy and also to try to get them to charge him instead of other more critical members of the warband. Or, even better, to get units to charge him and put themselves in a disadvantageous position.

Sheoch

Sheikh is modelled carrying a large sword as he sprints over some shrubbery. He will be given the Fast trait and Stealthy and Wayfinder so he is untroubled by terrain and also hides in it well. He is also given the Skilled Fighter trait making him more effective once he does spring through the woods to attack. His role will be to try to move through terrain to safely get to a target and try to take it out.

Lighaen

Finally there is the dog/cat creature in the warband. I am not sure what it is intended to be. I made it a small Minion and then gave it the Unarmed Fighter, Fast and Wild traits. Wild will let it decrease its attack roll to try to increase its 'Roll to Wound'. Unarmed Fighter actually gives it a bonus that compensates for the negative modifier of Wild so it can run about the field trying to chomp on opponents and take them down. The Hobgoblins in the other warband only have two Wounds so the additional benefit that Wild gives may be enough to take them out in one attack.

Next steps

My next step will be to get these two warbands on the table and actually play a game using the current Fantastic Scuffles rules.
